NetAware

One of the best ways to keep your child safe online is to monitor and talk about which apps they are using.  However, because there are so many apps, it can be difficult to keep 'on trend' with them in the same way that kids do.

To help with this, the NSPCC and O2 have created Net-Aware.  It provides guides to social networking sites and apps to help keep parents informed.  Simply search for the name of the app, and Net-Aware will give you a brief overview, a suggested minimum age and possible risks of the app.

If a chid asks if they can have a certain app, it would be good to visit Net-Aware, read up on the app with your child, and make an informed choice.  This will help you and your child know if there are any risks, and how those risks can be minimised.

Technology is an amazing thing and we should embrace it whilst teaching our children how to use it safely.
